Typology of rivers in Switzerland
The typology of rivers classifies the diversity of Swiss streams on the basis of abiotic and physiographic criteria. The typology thus describes the potentially undisturbed (natural) of corresponding watercourse sections (target state). Each type of watercourse is documented in detail. Anthropogenic interventions and impairments are not mapped. Knowledge of the target status is an essential basis for assessing the status of watercourses and a helpful guide for enhancement measures.
Note: This publication is not a federal implementation aid, but an expert report.
What is assessed:
The potential uninfluenced status of corresponding watercourse sections
Recorded parameters:
Biogeography, geology, gradient, discharge, altitude
Evaluation:
No assessment, but an allocation of each watercourse section to one of the total of 54 watercourse types.
